DP World Lions cricketer reflects on her 2022 Diadora Jozi Cup memories

DP World Lions cricketer Jenna Evans said her fondest memory of the Diadora Jozi Cup was standing on stage while holding certificates with her team memebers.

DP World Lions cricketer Jenna Evans recalled her earliest memories of her favourite sport.

Evans said she had played cricket seriously from the tender age of nine. “I got into cricket purely because of my brother constantly wanting me to play with him in the garden… he’s the reason I am where I am now, along with the support of my parents.”

The batter added that she loved cricket because it had been the sport that she had put the most effort into. She added the results have shown and all her dreams of doing well in the sport were quickly becoming realities.

The 19-year-old reflected on her performance in the 2022 Diadora Jozi Cup. “I think I played well last year. I also believe I was the second top run scorer. I was enjoying the games so much that it allowed me to be free and score runs with ease. My best memory is our team standing on the stage, holding our certificates, wearing our medals and thinking ‘This is my team and I’m so happy to be here’.”

Evans added that being part of the All Star team last year was one of her career highlights. “I think the performance that stood out and set my position in the All Star squad was in the semi-finals against Randburg. We played against them twice and managed to beat them both times, and I scored 70 odd runs taking my team to victory.”

She concluded that two mottos that she lived by were: ‘To always show intent and make it worthwhile because you never know who is looking’ and “To always work hard and ensure I give myself possibilities in life.’
