Substation on Jellicoe Avenue temporarily fixed

The Jellicoe Avenue substation in vulnerable to cable theft and vandalism which could result in an outage to residents on that street.

City Power has so far this year used 27 000 cable joints, an amount they used in three years’ time in previous years said spokesperson Isaac Mangena when addressing the state of the substation on Jellicoe Avenue in Rosebank.
Resident Jane Thomas had acknowledged that weeds had been cut inside the substation however the main cable to the substation was still above ground on the outside with no repair to the pavement. “Inside doors are still broken and wide open,” described Thomas. The resident said the complaint had been made for months now.

Mangena said City Power Alexandra Service Delivery Centre was aware of the state of the substation on Jellicoe Avenue. “The maintenance team has done a temporary fix due to the lack of all the material needed to provide a permanent solution. As of today (April 26) the door will be fixed and locked as we are awaiting material to arrive later in the afternoon if all goes according to plan,” said Mangena.
