Norwood Police Station’s new commander elated about appointment

Colonel Logan Govender has been in service for 37 years and is no stranger to the station commander role.

Newly appointed Norwood Police Station Commander Colonel Logan Govender is determined to fight crime and steer the station in the right direction.

Govender said, “Norwood Police Station is not new to me, I’ve worked at Hillbrow Police Station and in the Hillbrow cluster for 27 years. When I was doing strategic management, I was involved with Norwood’s station by assisting them with their performance so I am aware of the existing problems the station faces.”

The commander said although the station had had its fair share of challenges by being in the parliamentary portfolio spotlight, he was determined to turn things around for the better.

Govender added that with his experience acquired over his 37 years of service, he was ready to play his role as a commander at Norwood Saps.

“I’ve worked at Hillbrow Police Station for 27 years and became a station commander at Rosebank and Brixton SAPS. I wouldn’t consider coming to Norwood station as a challenge because if you worked at Hillbrow and Joburg Central SAPS, you can work at any police station in the country.”

He added every police station, big or small, experienced different challenges which were influenced by internal and external factors.

Govender concluded that he hoped to implement different strategies to combat crime in the community.

“It’s been one month since my appointment and I work with stakeholders from previous stations as well as the CPF, and look at technology and how we can use it to move the station forward and use it to prevent crime. Together with the Norwood Business Forum, we’re looking into installing cameras in the district.”
