A safe and crime-free community

Norwood Business Association thanks everyone who joined hands for a safer Norwood community operation.

A clear and ongoing message and precedent were set in the Norwood area and its surrounding communities on January 14.

According to Jason Grove of the Norwood Business Association, there was a massive joint police operation over the weekend.

The operation brought multiple community entities together with the main focus on crime prevention. Police from various stations around Gauteng, JMPD, Home Affairs, community groups, CPF, the Norwood Business Association, and different security companies attended.

“This saw a hard crackdown on Norwood Sector 3, the area under Norwood SAPS, with multiple arrests having been made,” Grove added.

He explained that different types of policing tactics were used, from roving roadblocks, stop-and-searches to raids on facilities and compliance checks.

“The operation also saw many illegal taverns, shebeens, nightclubs, scrap yards, and other areas of non-compliance closed down, further wanted suspects were identified and arrested along with undocumented immigrants.”

Grove stated that close to 200 people were deployed onto the streets for the night, and Sector 3 will have a zero-tolerance approach to crime going forward.

“Please, as a community and businesses, make a special note to support the entities in the community that commit these kinds of extensive resources and manpower to keep you as a community safe.”

He thanked everyone who was there and put in the long, hard hours.
