Larry Marks speaks more about the Norwood Community Police Forum

Locals are encouraged to join the CPF if they want to change their community.

Being involved in community work for most of his adult life, Larry Marks joined the Norwood Community Policing Forum with a focus on community security through various community security and social service NPOs.

The 55-year-old is a business liaison for the Norwood CPF and chairman of sector 1, who joined the CPF in mid-2021.

According to Marks, he joined the CPF because he has substantive experience in communal structures and an understanding of the volunteer environment in these types of structures.

“I observed the deterioration of safety and security in the Norwood, Sandringham, and wider Johannesburg areas and felt I could contribute to assisting in reducing or even turning this around by doing something of substance instead of just complaining to friends, family, and on social media.”

He adds that as South Africans, we are great at complaining about how things are not as we want them to be.

“If you want to see the change in your environment, then you need to be serious, passionate, and proactive, as without that, we will continue to simply be spectators in our own lives.”

Marks explains that the CPF is one avenue to achieve change in areas that are of great concern to most people, such as crime, grime, and social deterioration, and as it is a legislated, structured entity that works hand in hand with the SAPS and other social services.

“If you want to see a change in your environment, become the actor in your environment to be part of the change you want to see,” Marks concluded.
