A beautiful soul is never forgotten

Monique Cook said of Evangelos 'Angelos' Kostoglous, "Angelos, I thank you for everything you have done for me and everyone in our community. My heart and thoughts are with your family friends and your wife."

Devastated family and friends of Evangelos ‘Angelos’ Kostoglous came together at the Puntans-Hill Sports Club to share the beautiful memories they have of him.

Members of the Norwood Police Station, Community in Blue (CIB) and Community Police Forum (CPF) members also attended the memorial service.

Norwood CPF chairman Wayne Preston said of Evangelos ‘Angelos’ Kostoglous, “I would like to make a promise that we will continue forward in Angelos’ footsteps, we will work double as hard to fill that gap. Forged by war and brutal strife, thus is born a spartan life. We live to train, fight and die, upon the field where heroes lie, always free and never slaves, our dead sleep soundly in their graves.”

Born in June 1958, Angelos lived in Orange Grove for most of his life.

Angelos passed away on December 4, 2022, due to a heart attack while he was attending an accident scene in Norwood.

He dedicated his senior years to serving his community and always going above and beyond in everything he did.

In 2016, he was one of the founding members of the Norwood Neighborhood Watch and later helped create the Community in Blue project, which he proudly led.

Councillor Joanne Horwitz. She said of Evangelos ‘Angelos’ Kostoglous, “Angelos helped me in many things but what I remember the most is his kind, humble soul, we as the community were blessed to have such a person.”

‘Alpha’, as his friends knew him, was a guardian angel to the residents of the Norwood precinct as well as a beloved friend to many of the community members.

A friend and colleague of Angelos, Wayne Preston, said their hearts were bleeding as the CPF and CIB have lost a great and dedicated person.

“We will miss our friend every day and we will make sure to keep working as he did to honour his memory and the dedication he put in during the patrols.”

On behalf of the Norwood Police Station, former Commander Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Mathe said of Evangelos ‘Angelos’ Kostoglous, “I came to honour Angelos and I dedicate a Shakespeare poem, ‘Death be not proud.’ Angelos served the community with pride and joy. I only knew him for nearly a year, and he would come to the station and ask what he could do for the community. That was honour and dedication. We lost a hero, a person who served with pride. Rest in peace, my brother.”

Evangelos “Angelos” Kostoglou’s seven noble virtues he lived by:

Courage: I face my fear and defend my family and kindred from all dangers.
Discipline: I do what is necessary and right of my own accord, without bribe or threat.
Honour: I stand by my oaths and honour my family by keeping my name pure amongst the kindred.

Shona Weinstein of Community in Blues. She said of Evangelos ‘Angelos’ Kostoglous, “As the only female patroller, Angelos used to baby me during the night patrols, and I am grateful to have met and learned so much from him. He was our family, friend, and ‘alpha’ in everything he did. We are grateful for that; may his beautiful soul rest in peace. We will miss him dearly.”
