St John’s College Class of 2022 gets 100% Bachelor pass

The Class of 2022 at St John's College achieved 382 distinctions (80%+), with one-third over 90%.

The grade 12 class of 2022 has received their matric results and it is happiness all around. The St John’s College matric class has achieved a 100% pass rate and a 100% Bachelor Degree Pass.

Executive Headmaster of St John’s College Stuart West said, “We salute the Matric Class of 2022 on their truly outstanding results, and while we celebrate our many top achievers, we also recognise and applaud every matric who worked incredibly hard to achieve their personal best,”

“This speaks to the resilience, habits of excellence and structured academic confidence that each of our matrics embraced to achieve these remarkable results. The rising tide lifts all the boats!,” he said.

A further seven students – Matthew Botha, Antoine Coche, Matthew McJannet, Darren Peng, Stuart Phipson, Jonathan Stagman and Ruben van Zyl – feature on the IEB Commendable Achievements list, each achieving within the top 5% in five subjects, including a distinction for Life Orientation.

Dr Colleen Henning who is the Deputy Head of Academics at the college said, “It is wonderful to see that 11% of the students have been recognised as top achievers on the Commendable and Outstanding achievements lists by the IEB, with 43 students achieving subject results placed in the top 1% of all IEB candidates in South Africa”.

Sebastian Bouilliart, Khelan Desai, Stuart Phipson and Jonathan Stagman are also commended for achieving 99% in their mathematics examinations. In Dramatic Arts, Joss Theophanous achieved 99% and Ben Scott-King 98%

Of the 122 students who wrote the matric exams, 11 achieved an average of 90% and above (9% of the class). An average of at least 80% was achieved by 46 boys (38% of the group), while 64 boys (52% of the class) achieved at least 75%. Their names will be etched into the walls of Big School.

A total of 86 boys achieved an average of 70% and above (70.5% of the grade), and 120 boys (98.4% of the grade) achieved 60% and above.

“Our English students earned an overall average of 77%. We are delighted that 86% wrote Mathematics and 78% of the students wrote Physical Sciences – a large uptake of these two subjects. The average for Mathematics was 77%, and for Physical Sciences, the class achieved a 70% average,” Henning said.

“I would like to thank our academic staff from St John’s Bridge Nursery School to the College, who have all played a significant role in developing the habits of excellence in these young men. Their incisive academic professionalism, creativity and nurturing care provided the firm foundation from which our Matriculants have soared like the majestic eagles they are!” said West.
