Making a difference in the community

A Parkhurst-based hospice expresses its gratitude to the public for their assistance since the beginning of the year.

HospiceWits‘ CEO, Jacqui Kaye, reflects on the year they had as an organisation.

Kaye said they are grateful to all the donors and supporters who donate funds and goods to their charity shops, the volunteers who assisted, and the general public.

According to Kaye, the role of hospice has become progressively more pivotal to the healthcare infrastructure, both in terms of direct patient care, capacity building, and education.

She stated that the year 2022 has been quite productive, as they were accredited by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations to offer the NQF Level 2 and Level 3 home-based care qualifications.

“To date, two groups have completed the HWSETA external examinations, with all students passing with distinctions and honors pass marks, and one of our students, Debbie Rademeyer, has achieved the highest mark in all the hospices in South Africa.”

She said that hospices can and will make a difference, but they depend on the generosity of the private sector, corporations, and trusts to invest in their ever-growing activities.

“Our thanks to our funders, donors, staff, volunteers, board of governors, and loyal supporters; without them, our organization would not be able to sustain its services.”

The organisation’s wish list includes:

  • Non-Perishable food for patients and families in need this Festive
    Season.
  • Toiletries and donations for patient care.
  • Funding for learners to study.
  • Funding to purchase training equipment.
