City Power team attends to power interruptions at Saxonwold

The two main cables cut during an excavation at the corner of Beechwold and Aldswold in Saxonwold affected the community's power supply.

City Power‘s team attended to power interruptions at the corner of Beechwold and Aldswold in Saxonwold on January 13 after a third party cut cables during excavation.

This comes after a resident in the Saxonwold and Parkwood Residents Association (SAPRA) group on Facebook complained about a main electrical cable being exposed for six days after being cut by a contractor during excavation.

City Power’s spokesperson Isaac Mangena said a team was on site to fix the power interruption.

“We have a team on-site attending to this, repairing the cables, and ensuring customers have power. We apologise for the inconvenience caused to the customers.”

Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck said he was aware of the dug-up hole and the cut cables.

“It is the responsibility of Joburg Water to reinstate the exposed hole. They will probably backfill with soil, and it will sit there for months as they haven’t got the capacity to do the reinstatements.”

The Gazette did not receive a response from Joburg Water after two days requesting comment.
