Parkview library hosts a magic show

Parkview library believes that books are uniquely portable magic.

A magical start to the year was had at Parkview Library on January 9 where children and their parents were entertained by a magic show.

Following the bliss and magic tricks performed by Norman Gibson, the audience was left speechless.

Portia Bogatsu, manager at the Parkview library, said the magic show was a holiday programme that the library hosted as part of the Library and Information Services holiday initiatives.

“During the school holidays, the City of Johannesburg libraries are required to have a holiday programme that allows children to come to the library, learn about libraries and the services they offer, and interact with libraries.”

She said, as the Parkview library, they have been presenting the magic show for the past 20 years for the December and January holidays.

“The magic show is always well received by the community and usually leads to a surge in memberships for both adults and children; this one was a success even though we had load-shedding.”

She added that the day was a success as the library was packed with children and their parents enjoying and engaging in the magic show.

Bogatsu concluded by highlighting that the holiday programme served as a way to promote the library within their respective communities and to raise awareness of the services they offered.
