Young water polo stars share their love for the sport

"Putting your love and hard work into sports helps you excel at them," says Wilson.

The Ridge School water polo stars Connor Wilson and James Murray participated in the 28th Saints Water Polo Invitational Tournament hosted by St Stithians College.

The 13-year-olds gave their all in the tournament and their team finished fifth overall.

James said he also played rugby and soccer and believed water polo taught him to work hard and never give up.

“I want to be the best, make the team, and follow my dreams,” he added.

Connor said he had only been playing the sport for just under a year and took it seriously as he wanted to ‘outdo his excellent cousins who are sportsmen in Canada’.

“I play rugby too and work hard in water polo even though it won’t be part of my career. I will try to incorporate time to play it regardless of my career choice.”

He added he had stopped enjoying cricket because the games were too long and preferred water polo because it was faster and more physical.

Connor Wilson is a water polo player at The Ridge School.

“To all the younger learners at school who look up to me. Remember, things might not always be fair, you might not get picked for the team you want and can get bad coaches, however, it is important to never lose hope because you will eventually achieve your goals,” Connor concluded.
