Bramley conference centre hosts African Children Awards
The first ceremony was held in November 2018. Over the years, the Stacey Fru Foundation recognised over 150 children ages seven to 13, from 12 African countries in 11 categories.
The Stacey Fru Foundation celebrated the fifth annual African Children of the Year awards at the Profound Conference Centre.
Speaking on November 22 in Bramley, the foundation’s spokesperson Dorcas Gwenhure said the awards shone a light on African children who continued to make a difference.

“These awards are scheduled to celebrate and recognise African children, ages seven to 13 on Universal Children’s Day, a day dedicated by Unicef to promote children’s rights. The categories of the awards include arts and culture, education and skills development, leadership and philanthropy,” said Gwenhure.
Author and foundation founder Stacey Fru added that her goal as a Play-Your-Part ambassador was to celebrate other children.

“I am the youngest multiple award-winning author of chapter books in the world. I wrote my first book at the age of seven without my parent’s knowledge. My influence on others has given me great honour to be the custodian of the African Children of the Year awards competition. These awards fulfil my dream to celebrate other children as I get celebrated,” she said.
Gwenhure noted that the children’s awards were the most important initiative of the foundation. She added that during the awards ceremony, it was also a time when the foundation and its partners recognised children between the ages of seven to 13 across Africa who contributed positively to their community, country and the continent.
