Summerwood Primary School receives care packs from Union for Jewish Women

The deputy principal said that the school was hoping to extend the reading programme to other grades because not every learner had access to libraries.

The Union of Jewish Women donated care packages to Summerwood Primary School learners.

Speaking on November 22, the union’s manager Vanessa Weltman said their contribution was in aid of Mitzvah Day.

“The international day of faith observed on November 20 translates to good deeds day. We’re handing out care packages of toothpaste, pads and toothbrushes to disadvantaged children from townships.”

Summerwood’s deputy principal Nomthandazo Ndaba said the school was appreciative of the union’s efforts.

Ndaba added that the school had maintained a relationship with the union for years.

“The women help our school with a lot of things namely our feeding scheme due to our learners being underprivileged and coming from disadvantaged backgrounds. They also donate school shoes at the beginning of the year and help Grade two learners read every Tuesday.”
