Norwood police take to the streets to curb crime

Curbing crime and making the streets of Norwood and the surrounding areas safe, crime-free, and drug-free is what the Norwood Police Station members did when they took to the streets recently.

The Siyabangena parade operation consisted of various stakeholders, including SAPS, JMPD, the National Traffic Police, the Department of Community Safety, the Norwood Community Police Forum (CPF), and a massive contingent of Gauteng CPF volunteer patrollers.

As rainy weather did not stop the parade, Vispol Commander Lieutenant Colonel Prince Mogaila and Siyabangena Coordinator Peter Rataemane controlled the operation.

“This operation aims to take back Norwood from the criminals and deal with the crime hotspots, as we have identified Orange Groove as one,” said Mogaila.

Mogaila highlighted that Orange Groove is having a problem with the theft of motor vehicles, drug-related issues, more illegal immigrants, and unlicensed weapons.

Norwood SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha added that this operation was a zero-tolerance operation that ended up with fifteen suspects in the Norwood Police Station.

Masotsha said, “We caught ten illegal immigrants, undocumented people in the country; two armed robberies; two driving under the influence of alcohol; and not forgetting the one who was in possession of drugs.”

He said all the arrested suspects will appear before the court in due course and that this operation is part of ongoing festive season visibility until the end of January 2023.
