The 17-year-old added that she felt represented and inspired by the 2021 head of SRC, hence she worked towards the position.

The grade 11 learner noted that although she was part of the school’s swimming team, she was passionate about social responsibility.

“I’ve been a part of Monday House Projects, it is an initiative where Roedean learners partner with disadvantaged primary schools as well as assisting them with homework which is usually literacy and numeracy. I am also part of Round Square which is a network of international schools which offers educational programmes aimed at developing learners.”

Haffejee added that she looked forward to her final year in matric with her new position on the SRC.

“School is supposed to be a place where you feel safe and where all of your opinions are respected and heard. I think through the SRC a lot of those things can be accomplished and I cannot wait to work with the board to accomplish more things for the school.”
