The Union of Jewish Women hosts domestic workers’ tea event at Jabulani Recreation Centre

The Union of Jewish Women is an organisation that believes in the enrichment of South Africans and has various programmes such as feeding schemes to support this.

The Union of Jewish Women Johannesburg hosts a domestic workers’ appreciation tea at Jabulani Recreation Centre.

Speaking at the centre on October 27, the union’s chairman Ingrid Koor explained that the union was pleased to celebrate domestic workers.

“Today we celebrate domestic workers. We couldn’t do what we do without the women who run our homes and look after our children, you are all so precious to us and what you do for us doesn’t go unnoticed.”

A domestic worker, Theodorah Lisanyane said she was glad to be at the event.

“I’m happy to be here today and be recognised by the Union of Jewish Women. I also have a lot of friends here so it’s also a good social event.”

Koor added it was part of the union’s mandate to make a difference in people’s communities.

“No matter anyone’s race or religion, we are here to help in every way we can. We believe in the enrichment of all the people of South Africa, and we have various programmes to support this.”

Another domestic worker, Agnes Gumbo added the event was a great opportunity to socialise with different domestic workers in the same community.
