Three suspects arrested in Illovo after injuring delivery bike driver

A firearm was seized, and the suspects' vehicle was recovered.

Three suspects in a black hatchback approached and pointed a firearm at a Norwood resident who was moving their car on Saturday, 29 October.
According to a released statement by Community Active Protection (CAP), the victim was able to manoeuvre away from the suspects who thereafter fled the scene.
“The incident was reported to the CAP command centre. CAP obtained the description of the suspects and identified the suspects’ vehicle that was involved in the incident,” read the statement.
CAP said that this information was then relayed to the CAP Special Operations Team and the South African Police Services (SAPS).
A number of law enforcement agencies was roped in and they went to look for the suspects.
“The team was lead by SAPS Gauteng SVC and assisted by SAPS JHB K9, CAP Special Operations Teams including CAP Marshalls) and other role players mobilized to look for the vehicle,” explained CAP.
The law enforcement agencies said that the vehicle the suspects were using was spotted in the Hyde Park area but it was only when the suspects were on Rudd Road in Illovo that the officers decided to intercept them.
This is when the suspects decided to skip a red traffic light on Corlett Drive to evade arrest but they ended up causing an accident with a motorcycle delivery rider.
“Three suspects were arrested, a firearm was seized, and the suspects’ vehicle was recovered. Paramedics were present at the scene to treat the injured delivery bike rider.”
The vehicle the suspects were using was later confirmed to have been stolen in an armed robbery in Douglasdale two weeks ago.
CAP urges residents to report any suspicious criminal activity to the SAPS and CAP on 0861227227.
