Parkhurst Recreation Centre under the new management

The local recreational centre in Parkhurst welcomes a new manager to run the facility.

Open-minded and community-driven, Alessandro Petrus is here to take Parkhurst Recreation Centre to higher levels.

August marks his second month of managing the centre, which has been a vital part of the Parkhurst community since 1967.

Covid-19 had a negative effect on the centre, which resulted in its closing, and many of the clubs that used it moved or closed themselves.

Now, with the new management, Petrus is determined to bring change to the centre. He aims to maintain the existing relationships with the community members and stakeholders while working closely with the other 12 recreational facilities in Region B.

He wishes to make the community aware of activities and events happening at the centre via social media and to find new or unfamiliar sporting codes to introduce to the centre.

“I am blessed to have an open facility that does not have a lot of maintenance issues to do, and there are always community members who are willing to come back with ideas and initiatives and find out how they can implement and utilise the facility’s space.”

According to Petrus, Parkhurst is an established, upmarket community that has financial resources to play with, but that doesn’t mean the recreation centre has to stay as it is now.

“I am not exactly trying to reinvent the wheel, but there are little things I have noticed that I would love to modify, and if I can work in a team and bring other people on board, it will be better.”

He said people should expect a more open-door policy at the centre with new programmes focusing on collaboration and a high-energy manager who will be present at the facility daily.
