Sandringham SAPS and JMPD unite for GBV campaign

The JMPD Community Outreach and Sandringham SAPS Social Crime Prevention hosted a gender-based violence awareness campaign in celebration of Women’s Month.

Recently, the Sandringham Police Station and JMPD bid farewell to Women’s Month with a joint gender-based violence campaign.

Station Commander Colonel Sanet Williams said such campaigns remain necessary for communities and the country. “It’s also good to see that community members are part of spreading the message of keeping women safe.”

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla in a statement said, “The JMPD Community Outreach and Sandringham SAPS Social Crime Prevention Unit is hosting the joint Women United Against GBV Awareness Campaign in celebration of Women’s Month by addressing crimes against women and children.”

The campaign started at Sandringham Police Station and progressed to London Road and N3, Alexandra.

Officials handed out informational pamphlets, engaging and educating members of the public on matters relating to gender-based violence and general safety on the roads, in public and at home.

Policewoman Queen Manenje added that London Road was notorious for crimes hence it was chosen as a location for the campaign.

“In the bags, we’ve put GBV and trio crime tips because women are always targets of crimes and the goodie trio crime pack is mainly to teach and help women to stay alert and aware of their surroundings.”
