Our beautiful market opened in November 2019 and has become a destination day out that caters for both young and old and has 7 unique sheds that each contribute different offerings. We want you to breakout of your daily prisons and routine of life and come and enjoy the time with us at Prison Break Market.

The concept and shed design are the brainchild of developer and owner Peter Gillespie who has travelled the world extensively and closely watched how markets have vendors unpacking to set up and packing up at the end of a day. He simply felt it was an inefficient way to trade in the conditions most markets operate under. And so his dream was to create a midway environment between a pop-up market and shopping centre, as well as to give a base to crafters to permanently be able to manufacture goods in front of clients and encourage them to teach their trade while enjoying the benefits of selling the end product.

Star Food:

This Shed sees artisanal street food in a market environment and incorporates your basic grocery fresh produce items.​  Enjoy the smell of freshly baked bread coming out of our onsite bakery, and pop into the lovely German butchery, get your fresh fruit or veggies from our farmers, and don’t miss the authentic dairy that stocks fresh homemade yoghurts, cheeses, and the old school farm fresh milk in a glass bottle.  Enjoy a coffee and fresh cake of the day or stock up on delicatessen sauces, jams, pickles, fresh flowers, raw honey, cannabis, and other artisanal offerings that come in on weekends.

The Yard Eatery:

This Shed comprises a collection of food and beverage stalls offering a unique mix of flavours and experiences with a stunning substantial wooded deck that allows you to enjoy endless views of the Sandton skyline and whereby one can capture the beautiful sunsets. Kids can ride scooter bikes and race around our Kyalami-shaped track or spend time on the jungle gym while you relax and enjoy a meal from one the mix of cuisines on offer or enjoy a delicious artisanal ice cream on a hot day.

Crafters Shed:

Filled with unique individuals who showcase their creativity while you watch them manufacture their goods. You can also join a class and be taught how to master a certain trade such as weaving, stained glass design, woodwork or jewellery making, to name but a few while supporting them in purchasing onsite or placing orders from their stalls.

Create:

Choose from a vast array of unfired bisque and a wide selection of colourful paints to create crockery that is both personal and completely unique. Spend a leisurely day painting in a relaxed environment in our beautiful location with our friendly staff at hand to assist you with any painting techniques that you might wish to make use of.   Offering an exciting range of cocktails and wine in store as well as a scrumptious range of freshly baked cakes and coffee with a light cafe menu is available all day.

Dreambox:

This shed will have you be the envy of your friends on social media as you enjoy the uniquely different rooms in which to take the coolest and most Instagram-able photos and selfies.  This live pop-up experience is the first in Johannesburg and comprises 12 different boxes, each with its own theme.

San Quentin Events:

In line with our Prison Break Market name, the venue name was selected after the name of one of the oldest prisons in the world, that had various artists through time perform and entertain the prisoners and guards, which is exactly what we plan to do here…Entertain You!

The unique architectural design and versatility of the venue lends itself to cater for any event. Besides being able to rent the venue for special occasions, both corporate and private, the team at San Quentin also plan events for the general public from sports being shown on a large LED Video-wall, to breath-taking production shows, wine tasting & comedy evenings and so much more!

The Pour House:

The art, education and pleasures of distilled gin, craft beer, wine and spirits is found in Shed 7. We have a beautiful Gin Distillery where you can make your own bottle of Gin, find boutique wine, high-quality craft beer and pair it with a variety of food offerings.​

Our property tastefully boasts unique, quirky, historic collector pieces that over the years have been gathered and restored to bring some nostalgia to the folk who visit the market and adds to the allure and desire to breakout.
