Kai said the anticipation and nerves were at an all-time high while sitting in the assembly before his name was announced. “It is truly indescribable. From a very young age, I always looked up to the prefects and dreamed of one day being one myself. It is incredible to be given this privilege once again.”

His role as a prefect will be to represent the school’s learners to the best of his ability.

“I need to ensure that every voice and opinion is heard and represented to its fullest potential. As a prefect, I must be a role model, displaying responsibility and good behaviour. We, as prefects, also need to uphold school values and the rules; organising and being proactive at school events is one of the most important responsibilities of the prefect team.”

Kai noted that being an ice hockey player had developed his leadership skills and he learned that keeping calm when others were in turmoil was important.

“I have also learned that it is essential to keep people motivated and a gentle but firm approach is crucial. Additionally, I’ve learned that everyone’s opinion should be heard, as everyone can contribute something valuable to the team.”

Kai concluded that communication was important in a team, “It is also important to delegate work rather than doing it all yourself. A leader needs to create multiple plans in case things go wrong, to ensure everything runs smoothly.”
