Pippa, a Grade 7 learner, performed excellently in jumping and prix caprilli classes. Though she narrowly missed out on an individual placing, her clear rounds and poised riding did not go unnoticed. Pippa’s journey within the equestrian world began seven years ago at Southern Riding Centre, a stable near Tedderfield. For the past year, she’s been riding Starstruck, a spirited 23-year-old pony who still tackles jumps with the energy of a much younger horse.

This dynamic duo has achieved significant success, with Pippa making the Central Johannesburg A team for prix caprilli (beginner) and level 3 other show jumping, securing spots in the B team for level 3 equitation and competition show jumping. At the Gauteng finals, Pippa’s efforts contributed to her school’s impressive placements, securing top 8 finishes across several categories.

Her strong results earned her a place on the Gauteng A team for nationals, where she claimed first place, with her B team finishing fourth overall. The highlight of her experience was having her entire Grade 7 class attend nationals to cheer her on, a touching display of school spirit and camaraderie.

On the other hand, Grade 2 rider Angelina Loupo, who started riding at just three years old, brought home a resounding victory. Riding her beloved pony Emily, Angelina’s bond with her pony

is heartwarming, with Angelina even hugging her back after a successful ride. Competing in performance riding, Angelina showcased her skills and secured first place, making her school and province proud.

Both riders represented St Katharine’s School with grace, highlighting the exceptional talent and dedication within the school’s equestrian community. Their achievements at nationals mark a significant milestone in their riding careers, with the promise of even more successes to come.
