South Africa is one of 22 countries participating in the championships in Deqing, China from October 15–20.
Buchler is the youngest member of the squad at 20 years old.
According to the captain of the SA Men’s Canoe Polo team, Niel Burger the team is proud to represent the South African canoe polo community on the world stage.

In preparation for the championships, the team has been training at camps at Dabulamanzi Canoe Club in Emmarentia.

Seven players make up the SA squad – five are from Gauteng, and one each from the Western Cape and Knysna.
