Bestmed Egoli Grand Prix elevates high school athletics to new heights

In a dazzling showcase of youthful prowess and community spirit, the inaugural Bestmed Egoli Grand Prix has redefined high school athletics, setting a new standard for celebrating emerging talent and inclusivity.

In a spectacular display of youthful athleticism and community spirit, the inaugural Bestmed Egoli Grand Prix captured the essence of high school sports at the University of Johannesburg Stadium.
This landmark event, featuring around 30 schools from Johannesburg, set a new standard in celebrating emerging talent and fostering inclusivity.

Shaun Jackson, the head coach of Helpmekaar Kollege, perfectly captured the day’s energy. “Our learners are deeply passionate about athletics. The chance to run on a tartan track and compete with so many schools highlighted the incredible talent we have in Johannesburg.” The event indeed showcased top athletes from prestigious institutions such as King Edward VII and Monument, who delivered electrifying performances throughout.

The Bestmed Egoli Grand Prix, with Bestmed Medical Scheme as its title sponsor, was more than just a competition, it was a celebration of community and shared values. Karen Pienaar, Bestmed’s sponsorship and CSI specialist emphasised, “We are thrilled to be the title sponsor. This event not only highlights the exceptional talent of our young athletes but also underscores our commitment to education and community growth.”
One of the most exciting dimensions of the Grand Prix came through its partnership with Sable International. As partners, Sable not only supported the event but also took on a critical role, scouting top athletes with the potential to secure scholarships to study at the best universities in the USA. Tyler Hollingsworth, the director at Sable International, reflected on this initiative. “The Bestmed Egoli Grand Prix is more than just an athletics event; it’s a celebration of young talent, community, and the future of sports in South Africa.”

Simon Thorne, the head coach of KES, highlighted the significance of this grassroots support. “The backing from companies like Bestmed at the grassroots level is what makes such events possible and truly impactful,” he said.
