Emerging motorsport talent from Parktown Boys’

In a remarkable display of speed and skill, William Budler from Parktown Boys’ High School has captured the spotlight by winning the junior stock rods race at Mahem Raceway in Pretoria.

In the fast-paced world of motorsport, where speed meets precision, one young racer is making waves. This victory is just the start of what looks to be an exciting journey in the racing world.

William’s love for racing isn’t just a hobby – it’s in his blood. Growing up in a family with a strong racing background, he was surrounded by the roar of engines and the smell of petrol from a young age. His father, who owns a small motorsports workshop and has the world’s fastest BMW, has been his biggest mentor. “I was born into it,” says William. “My dad has taught me everything I know, from building my first engine at 8 years old to mastering my racing lines.”

Despite his age, William’s impressively quick rise in the racing ranks reflects his dedication and strong support system.

When it comes to his inspirations, William is clear. While he looks up to Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton, his father, and sprint racer Wild Willie Zurich, have truly sparked his passion for speed. “Ever since I saw Willie drive a V8, I knew that’s what I wanted to do,” William says.

Balancing school and racing is no easy task, especially for a young driver. William knows that education comes first, but he’s lucky to have a school that understands his passion and allows him the flexibility to excel in both areas. “School comes first,” William insists. “On practice days, I finish my homework before heading to the track.”

Looking ahead, William has big dreams. “I want to take over my dad’s business and study mechanical or motor engineering,” he says. “But my ultimate goal is to become a Formula 1 driver and be South Africa’s fastest champion.” He recently competed at Speed Weekend, where he raced against some of South Africa’s top drivers.

Racing is about more than just winning. It’s about the thrill, the fans, and the camaraderie. William recalls an extraordinary moment when he shared the podium with his 10-year-old friend, saying, “it wasn’t just about winning; it was about being there together.”

Before each race, William unusually finds motivation by listening to Elvis Presley’s Hound Dog while waiting in his car. It’s a ritual that helps him stay focused and energised.

As William continues to race towards his goals, it’s clear that this young driver has the talent, determination, and support to go far. Whether on the local tracks of South Africa or the global stage of Formula 1, William Budler is a name to watch in the world of motorsport.
