Naomi turns challenges into opportunities

Naomi May from Parktown Girls High views every challenge as an opportunity for meaningful impact.

Naomi May (17), a Grade 11 learner at Parktown Girls High School, believes that today’s challenges are hidden opportunities waiting to be uncovered. “If there is something that bothers you, fix it,” she echoes her father’s advice. Whether climate change, unequal education, or economic disparities, Naomi is confident that young people can drive meaningful change through small, consistent actions.

A passionate advocate for community service, Naomi has found numerous ways to give back. From tutoring struggling learners to volunteering with her church, she actively seeks opportunities to help others. “You will never regret doing something for the community,” she says, emphasising the importance of being a consistent source of support.

With a passion for creativity and a desire to start her own business, she aims to create job security for others while building a balanced, fulfilling life. For her, success isn’t just about professional achievements but about nurturing relationships and family. “If we all just tried to help someone, or fixed an issue, then change will be exponential,” she emphasises.

Though she’s cautious about the unknowns of technology, Naomi values the real connections that come from community building, rather than relying on social media. She views education as more than just absorbing information; it’s about discovering oneself and preparing for life’s challenges.
