Rotary Club of Rosebank marks 70 years with youth-focused celebrations
As the Rotary Club of Rosebank celebrates its 70th year, it remains committed to its mission of ‘Service Above Self’, focusing on empowering youth through community events.
The Rotary Club of Rosebank, founded in 1954, celebrated its 70th anniversary this year. The club has long adhered to its motto, ‘Service Above Self’, and continues demonstrating this commitment through various community-focused initiatives, particularly supporting youth.

One significant aspect of the club’s work is its involvement in establishing Interact Clubs at high schools. These clubs allow learners to engage in service projects and contribute positively to their communities. On July 24, Highlands North Boys High School hosted a special event where Samuel Mthembu was officially installed as the new president of their Interact Club. The handover ceremony, conducted by Richard Moloney, president of the Rotary Club of Rosebank, was attended by around 40 learners, many of whom received their Interact badges.
Adding to the club’s busy schedule, the Annual Careers Day took place on July 27 at Holy Family College. This event, supported by the college for several years, brought together representatives from a range of professions and educational institutions. It gave learners from various schools valuable insights into potential career paths and future opportunities.

Jean Bernardo, youth chairperson of the Rotary Club of Rosebank, highlighted the importance of these initiatives. “Supporting the youth by offering them opportunities for growth and knowledge is crucial,” said Bernardo. “We aim to guide them toward becoming the leaders of tomorrow.”
Through its ongoing dedication to youth development and community service, the Rotary Club of Rosebank continues to make a meaningful impact as it marks seven decades of service.
