Godfrey’s inspiring path to sucess

In honour of International Youth Day, we celebrate the remarkable journey of Godfrey Mokhoke (23). Working at Solly Kramers in Parkhurst, Mokhoke’s story is a powerful example of how youthful drive and ambition can overcome challenges and shape a promising future.

Godfrey is aware of the hurdles facing young people today, sharing, “we know the problems, but there’s a lack of effective solutions.” Undeterred, he is committed to his goal of becoming a self-employed truck driver within five years, he is saving diligently for a category C+E license and a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC). “I work diligently every day, saving a portion of my salary to secure these qualifications,” he explains, reflecting his commitment to achieving his dreams despite uncertainties about the future.

Mokhoke believes his generation can make a meaningful impact by engaging more in politics. “Despite the current apathy towards politics, our involvement and voting can lead to substantial change,” he asserts. He also sees technology as a vital tool for career advancement, highlighting that, “technology offers us unprecedented access to information and global collaboration.”

Handling stress and peer pressure with resilience, Mokhoke shares, “staying confident and focusing on self-improvement has always guided me.” His motivation is driven by his desire to provide for his family and the examples set by his friends. “I aspire to build a decent home for my mother or buy her a new house in a peaceful area,” he reveals.

He views education as the foundation for future success, stating, “education enhances job prospects and opens doors to higher positions.” Understanding the competitive job market, he emphasises the importance of self-improvement and networking. “Being patient and respecting my job, regardless of the compensation, will help me achieve my long-term goals.”

As he continues to work towards his ambitions, Godfrey exemplifies the spirit of resilience and determination that characterises the youth of today.
