Footprints 4 Sam serves up support

In a thrilling blend of sport and charity, Footprints 4 Sam’s inaugural Ladies Padel Day transformed the court into a vibrant arena of generosity and impact.

In a celebration of both sport and charity, Footprints 4 Sam hosted its first-ever Ladies Padel Charity Day at the James & Ethel Grey padel and social club on August 2.

The event brought together a diverse group of women who channelled their competitive spirit and love for padel into a vibrant fundraising effort. The day was a blend of fun padel matches and heartfelt support, demonstrating the powerful synergy between athleticism and philanthropy.

The matches were exhilarating, with players pushing their limits and breaking a sweat, all in support of Footprints 4 Sam’s mission. The atmosphere was filled with fierce determination and playful camaraderie, reflecting the sport’s unique blend of competition and social engagement.

“We are incredibly grateful to these amazing women who took time out of their busy schedules to support Footprints 4 Sam,” said Melissa Platt. “Their enthusiasm and generosity today were truly inspiring. Seeing their dedication both on and off the court made this event exceptionally special.”

Founded in 2017 by Melissa and Fred Platt in memory of their son Sam, Footprints 4 Sam has been a driving force in paediatric healthcare, focusing on children with serious illnesses and their families. The Sweat 4 Sam theme of the event perfectly captured the participants’ dedication, combining their love for the game with their commitment to making a difference.

The success of the event was evident not only in the high-energy matches but also in the significant funds raised. These proceeds will go directly to supporting Footprints 4 Sam’s crucial projects, including the Dare to Dream campaign, which aims to raise R80m for the renovation of the neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital.

As the event drew to a close, it was clear that the event had achieved its goals. Participant Sarah Silcock expressed her satisfaction, saying, “the combination of padel and supporting such an essential cause made today incredibly fulfilling. It’s evident that Footprints 4 Sam is making a real impact.”
