Father Shaun’s retirement marks end of an era at St. Teresa’s

St Teresa's Junior Primary School celebrated the retirement of Father Shaun Mary Von Lillienfeld with a heartfelt Mass.

St Teresa’s Junior Primary hosted a special Mass on July 26 to honour Father Shaun Mary von Lillienfeld, who retired at the end of July. Father Shaun has been a beloved St Martin de Porres Catholic Church community member since becoming the parish priest in mid 2013.

For the past 12 years, Father Shaun has played a key role in guiding the Catholic Grade 3 girls through their first reconciliation and First Holy Communion. His presence has provided consistent support and inspiration at the school’s events.

The community gathered to celebrate Father Shaun, reflecting on his profound impact on the Rosies and the broader school community. He has been a beacon of light and love, always welcoming everyone with open arms and a warm heart. His kindness and acceptance have made everyone feel valued, regardless of age.

Principal Lynne Elfick expressed deep gratitude for Father Shaun’s contributions, highlighting his welcoming presence and unwavering kindness. She praised his remarkable ability to communicate complex spiritual truths in a way that resonates with both young and old alike.

Father Shaun’s sermons have resonated deeply with the congregation, offering wisdom and compassion that touch the hearts of both young and old. He has a unique ability to communicate complex spiritual truths in a way that is accessible and inspiring to all.

Nicole Kruger, a teacher at the school, shared her sentiments. “We are going to miss Father Shaun because of his absolute dedication to the parish. He has an amazing way with the Rosies and always makes Mass special. His presence in the church will be sorely missed.”

Learners also expressed their love for Father Shaun. Caroline Cock said, “I like Father Shaun because he always says, ‘halfway to heaven’, and I am going to miss him because he’s funny.” Another learner, Aashi Lakha, added, “I like Father Shaun because he always dances and sings. I will miss him because he has a nice devotion to God.” Francie Stark echoed these sentiments, saying, “he is the best priest, and he is loving and funny. He also baptised my brother and me.”

Father Shaun expressed his gratitude in his farewell remarks. “These last 12 years have been the happiest days of my life. The community welcomed me with open arms. One of the joys has been the school Masses. I was a little apprehensive about how to communicate with children, but it came so simply; the girls were so responsive, and their little responses have been incredible.”

As Father Shaun embarks on his well-deserved retirement, he leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and kindness that will continue to inspire the St. Teresa’s community for years to come.
