Parktown Boys’ hockey sweeps Northcliff in final home fixture

Parktown Boys' hockey teams capped off their winter season with a commanding 6–1 victory over Northcliff in their final home fixture.

Parktown Boys’ High School displayed their hockey skill as they faced Northcliff High School in their final home fixture of the season on July 20. Impressive results across all sports marked the morning, but the hockey matches truly stole the spotlight.

The boys’ hockey teams dominated throughout the day, securing victories in all seven matches. The squad totalled an impressive tally of over 40 goals while conceding only two. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the first XI match, which lived up to the high expectations set by the enthusiastic crowd.

From the outset, Parktown demonstrated their intent with a dynamic and attacking style of play. The players were energised by the unwavering support from their parents and peers, and they were determined to deliver a memorable performance. The match proved entertaining and fluid, with Parktown controlling the game from start to finish.

The first XI squad scored six goals in total – three in each half – while Northcliff managed only a single goal. Parktown’s opening goal was a spectacular reverse stick tomahawk strike by forward Nic Townsend, which soared into the roof of the net, setting the tone for the rest of the game.

Captain Ryan Venter was instrumental in the team’s success, netting a hat trick of penalty corner goals. Ryan reflected on his performance in a post-match interview with SuperSport Schools Plus. “I think I played well. I did what I needed to do. I knew my job and focused on doing it; it was a good way for us to finish our last game. It has been special.”

Other notable contributors included Gomotsegang Molefe, who scored from a penalty flick, and Miles Makudo, who added a field goal to the tally. The victory not only provided a strong finish to the home season but also served as excellent preparation for the final two away fixtures.

Overall, the Parktown Boys’ performance was a fitting end to a successful winter home season, leaving players and supporters eager for the upcoming away matches.
