Greenside High learner presumed drowned in Vaal Dam

A Greenside High School learner is believed to have drowned in the Vaal Dam.

A tragic incident unfolded at the Vaal Dam, where an 18-year-old learner from Greenside High School is believed to have drowned on August 11. According to reports, the learner may have entered the water to retrieve his belongings after they were blown into the dam by a gust of wind.

As of now, nearly 24 hours have passed since the learner was reportedly swept away. According to Yusuf Abramjee, on X, a large-scale search operation is underway, with police, divers, drones, and helicopters involved in the effort to locate him.

Rosebank Killarney Gazette contacted Greenside High School for comment and was directed to the Department of Education. We have reached out to the Department of Education for additional information and are awaiting their response.
