Mandela Day unites Norwood community
Norwood Young Stars and the Norwood Orchards Residents Association united for 67 minutes.
Norwood Young Stars and the Norwood Orchards Residents Association (Nora) united and spent their 67 minutes for Mandela Day cleaning up the neighbourhood on July 18.
Norwood Young Stars founder Venita Masisi said they aimed to give back to the community.
“We began our clean-up at Norwood Park and ended it at the police hostel. We clean everywhere because the area is in a poor state.”
Nora vice chairperson Taryn Rose added keeping Norwood Park clean was important as it was the heart and soul of the community.
“It is quite sad because we have no support from the City of Johannesburg,” said Rose. “If it was not for the residents, the park would be derelict.”
