St Columba’s brings warmth and care to the community

In a series of heartfelt initiatives, the congregation of St Columba's has made significant strides in supporting the less fortunate in their community.

In the heart of the bustling neighbourhood of Parkview, St Columba’s congregation continues to set a shining example of community support and compassion.
Amid the challenges of the past month, they have not only met but exceeded expectations in their dedication to aiding those in need.

Throughout June, the congregation rallied with the generous residents of Parkview to address crucial community needs. A remarkable 300 blankets were purchased through joint donations, providing warmth and comfort to those facing the cold winter nights. This initiative is a testament to the collective spirit of giving that defines St Columba’s.

The socks were donated to the beneficiaries of the kitchen soup at St Columba’s Church.

Yet, the spirit of giving did not stop there. Recognising a need for warm footwear, an appeal was swiftly answered. Congregants were invited to donate new socks, allowing individuals to choose pairs that suited their preferences. Sixty-nine pairs of socks were distributed on June 26, ensuring that even the smallest comforts are not overlooked.

Adding to their roster of services and recognising the importance of health alongside warmth, a retired medical practitioner has joined the church’s outreach team. She has committed to screening individuals for diabetes, high blood pressure, and tuberculosis every Wednesday, immediately following the soup kitchen service. Her expertise promises to make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of those she serves.

Looking ahead, St Columba’s is gearing up for Mandela Day, preparing to expand their efforts and continue their mission of uplifting the community. Their commitment to service and compassion embodies the true spirit of unity and care.

As we reflect on these efforts, St Columba’s serves as a beacon of hope and support, reminding us all of the profound impact that community-driven initiatives can achieve. In a world often divided, their example is a testament to the power of coming together for the greater good.
