Parkview welcomes new station commander

Colonel Nkopane Jacob Mabusela spent most of his career at Johannesburg Central Police Station.

Parkview Police Station’s newly appointed commander, Colonel Nkopane Jacob Mabusela not only brought his 35 years of policing expertise but aims to increase his officers’ visibility in the community and continue to fight crime.

Mabusela said he spent most of his policing career at Johannesburg Central Police Station.

“I was recruited at Johannesburg Central Police Station in 1989 when it was still John Vorster Square. I continued to go to college where I completed my training and was successful. After that, I was deployed to Cape Town in Gugulethu and remained for two years.”
He returned to Johannesburg Central and has been there since April last year until he applied and was appointed the station commander at Parkview Police Station.

The colonel noted that he had worked in the Vispol department which entailed visible policing and this was where he moved up the ranks from warrant officer to colonel.

Although it has been a month since the new commander assumed his position, he said it did not take long for him to find his feet. “I have noticed that this station and Johannesburg Central differ a lot.”
He added Johannesburg Central was one of the busiest stations. “Parkview is a quiet suburb, even the crime statistics in the area are quite low compared to Johannesburg.”
Mabusela added his long career had taught him the importance of teamwork and collaboration, hence he planned to work closely with his new team.

“My main aim is to fight crime. The less crime is reported the better. Community members need to feel encouraged to report crime and feel safe. We will increase visibility and our police officers will be in hotspot areas where it is unsafe. “

He added his officers would work with the community, security companies, and the Community Policing Forum (CPF).
“The CPF is hands-on and was the first to introduce me to stakeholders in the community.”

The colonel concluded that Parkview was one of the most well-functioning stations.
“I aim to continue maintaining the standard and taking it higher as it is.”
