Kali and Kheyan said being part of the challenge was an honour. “When we began this project last year, we had no idea we would progress this far. We were chosen through a rigorous selection process, where our project was assessed by the Conrad judges in the US. “

Kali and Kheyan’s project, TransMerc was an advanced train system.

“TransMerc is centred around developing a magnetically propelled train system that uniquely utilises quantum locking technology. We have designed a train that levitates,” said Kheyan.
Kali noted their idea gained credibility as they consulted with professors and students at the University of the Witwatersrand. “We hope to continue to work on our project with them,” said Kali.

“We are also grateful for the encouragement of our teachers, mentors, and friends, who were instrumental in shaping our success and instilling in us the values of excellence and perseverance.”

The learners also credit their achievement to the invaluable guidance from their teachers, Sean Morrow and Dr Alistair Douglas.
“As we reflect on this achievement, we are filled with hope and possibility. The Conrad Challenge has ignited a passion within us to continue exploring the frontiers of science and innovation, and we are eager to see where our journeys will lead,” concluded Kali.
