R2 million award for Banyana Banyana’s quarterfinal triumph

Banyana Banyana was celebrated at Tymebank’s Rosebank head office on June 21, for their exceptional performance in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The event highlighted the team’s historic achievement of reaching the quarterfinals for the first time, culminating in the presentation of a R2 million donation in recognition of their hard work and success.

The World Cup, held in Australia and New Zealand, saw Banyana Banyana displaying exceptional skill and determination, earning them a place among the tournament’s top contenders. In recognition of their achievements, Tymebank had pledged to contribute a portion of each customer transaction processed during Women’s Month towards the national team’s bonuses. This initiative underscored the bank’s commitment to supporting women’s sports and empowering female athletes.

The donation comes as Banyana Banyana is on the verge of another significant milestone – securing a spot to represent the continent at the CAF Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in Paris 2024.
