103-year-old makes her mark in 2024 elections in Highlands North
In a moving run-up to the upcoming elections, 103-year-old Norah Barnes made a special journey to H. A Jack School to cast her vote, embodying the timeless essence of civic duty and participation.
Braving the chilly autumn day, 103-year-old Norah Barnes, accompanied by her daughter Lindsey Anderson, made a trip to the polling station at H. A Jack School in Highlands North today, marking her vote ahead of the 2024 South African elections on May 29.
Barnes, a symbol of resilience and commitment, emphasised the importance of civic duty and enduring the significance of active participation in the democratic process.
As she entered the polling station, Barnes’ determination to cast her ballot resonated with conviction. “It is extremely important for me to vote,” she stated firmly. “I will never stop voting no matter my age.”
Born in 1920, Noarah has lived through decades of South Africa’s history, witnessing its struggles and triumphs. Yet, her unwavering belief in the power of democracy has remained steadfast.
