On February 27, Pirates Club congratulated barman Eddie Matwele who has been serving for 25 years at the club.
Matwele was asked how his 25-year journey at the club had been.
Q: How did your Pirates Club journey begin?
A: I began my Pirates Club journey when the tennis club was run independently. I was then offered a permanent position in our main bar which was a massive deal for me as I looked after my family back home and sent all my children to school without worrying about finances.
Q: What are some of your highlights?
A: There are too many to count but the momentous one would be knowing members who visit the club consistently and getting to know our new members and regulars. I have also made great friendships with other staff members as well as the club members.
Q: What do you enjoy about working at Pirates Club?
A: I enjoy the fast-paced environment and engage well with everyone who walks through our doors.
Q: How has the club changed over the years?
A: A lot of changes happened while working here. I have seen the Old Bones bar change from being a men-only one to including a ladies. I also saw the bar renovations take place in the years I have spent here.
Q: What advice would you give a new barman?
A: Enjoy yourself, be patient, always have a smile on your face, and never forget that the customer is always right.
