St John’s College basketball teams walk away victorious

St John’s College will be hosting a basketball tournament in February.

The St John’s College basketball U16 team put on a good showing at the 2024 edition of the American International School Johannesburg’s (IASJ) basketball tournament which took place from January 25-27.

Head of marketing and communications, Jacqui Deeks said, “The U16 A’s won gold, defeating ESCA Wanderers with an emphatic 57-41 win in the final. In the U19 final, the St John’s College first team took silver after losing out to St Benedict’s College.”

The St John’s College U16 team included U15 player Reza Creamer, who ended the final with a buzzer-beating three-point shot that sent the crowd into raptures.

Deeks added that other key players for the St John’s College U16 team included Aniel Nuttal-Mbembe, Allan Patu, Ama Ntsubane, and Lesego Legoete, who regularly scored points in their games throughout the tournament.

The U16 team which included Paul Dumbu, Oliver Bouilliart, Lwandile Khupe and Kwandiwe Ngcobo went undefeated over six games at the tournament.

The U16 team is coached by Tafadzwa Tswatswa, who also led the College U16 team to victory in the 2023 edition of the AISJ tournament.

St John’s College will be hosting the country’s premier school basketball tournament in February.

“Hopes are high that the St John’s College basketball teams will continue to perform well during our upcoming tournament,” said the master in charge of basketball at St John’s College, Clemen Kock.
