VIDEO: Multi-vehicle accident on Bolton Road brings traffic to a halt

The red minibus taxi, according to an eyewitness, was the one to have skipped the traffic light.

A busy payday afternoon was disrupted when traffic came to a standstill on January 25, when a multi-vehicle accident occurred.

All lanes were diverted into one as emergency services worked to clear the Bolton Road and Jan Smuts Avenue intersection in Rosebank.

According to a nearby store manager, a red minibus taxi tried to skip the Jan Smuts and Bolton traffic lights. This then allegedly resulted in the multi-vehicle accident. Passengers of the taxi have been reportedly transported to different hospitals. It is not known currently what the condition of their injuries is.

JMPD spokesperson, Xolani Fihla the vehicles involved three vehicles, “A red Toyota minibus, a white Volvo, and a silver Toyota Corolla. It is alleged that the minibus taxi was travelling along Jan Smuts Avenue when the driver lost control and collided with the other vehicles.”

Fihla added that a total of eight people from both the minibus and Volvo sustained slight to serious injuries and were taken to various hospitals.

A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened at Rosebank SAPS for further investigation.
