Fire blazes in Joburg CBD

JMPD has confirmed that the fire is still ongoing and that all relevant authorities are on the scene.

[Update: 18:30 December 29] The City of Johannesburg’s Emergency Management Service has confirmed that no injuries or fatalities occurred when a detergent factory caught fire early in the afternoon on of December 29.

Media liaison officer, Xolile Khumalo confirmed that the cause of the fire was still unknown.

Xolile encouraged residents to ensure that electrical appliances were switched off when not in use.

[Initial:  16:00 December 29] The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police  Department(JMPD) has confirmed that there is a building on fire on Eloff Steeet, near Hulbert and Selby streets Johannesburg.

City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services firefighters and JMPD officers are on the scene.

Currently (December 29, 16:00) the northbound of Eloff Extension is closed off to traffic between Loveday and Laub streets.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution and to use alternative routes.
