A solo exhibition by Thando Makhosini Ngwenya, Mother, is currently being shown at Keyes Art Mile in Rosebank, which helps us remember and celebrate mothers as they are.

The exhibition debuted on November 9 and will continue until December 10.

In every culture of the world, the role of a mother is universally cherished and revered. Mothers are the architects of our memories, the silent strength in times of adversity and the source of unconditional love.

The solo exhibition by Ngwenya explores three women who have played an enormous role in his life.

Curator, Ivy Rihlampfu said the things that stood out to the artist regarding his mother were ‘her happy-making gestures and the tales she tells him’.

His grandmother represents an endless supply of gratitude; he will always be in awe of her contributions to his life, and his sister is a pillar of support for him.

“His body of work does not demand attention, yet the weight is felt and thus creates a different atmosphere,” said Rihlampfu.
“The Mother exhibition attempts to help us remember and celebrate mothers as they are cherished and revered in every corner of the world.”
