The Social Crime Prevention Unit at the Norwood SAPS held a community engagement campaign. Norwood police spokesperson Warrant Officer Eric Masotsha said the campaign was held on October 25, at the entrance to the Norwood Police Station. He said the stakeholders – Lifeline, Norwood Community Police Forum (CPF) and the Norwood Young Stars Football Club – were part of the campaign.
Members of the public who came to the station were also given pamphlets for safety tips about gender-based and domestic violence. Masotsha said the community was also taught about the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse. A majority of the community members were given counselling and advised to come to the station voluntarily for community duties at the station so that they could stay away from alcohol and drugs.
Masotsha said the campaign is an ongoing process in the fight against gender-based violence and against women and children abuse.
