JMPD officer’s death saddens colleagues

A murder case is being investigated by Ipid after a SAPS officer shot a JMPD officer dead in Braamfontein.

A moving memorial service was held for the fallen Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department officer Constable Sibusiso Zikalala who was shot in Braamfontein.

Metro police spokesperson Officer Xolani Fihla said the department was greatly saddened by the loss of its member.
The shooting took place outside a nightclub in Braamfontein after an alleged altercation between a SAPS officer and the late Zikalala.

Zikalala of Naledi, Soweto worked at the K9 Unit and was off-duty at the time of the incident. He served as an officer for 16 years and at the K9 Unit which investigates high-profile cases which involve criminal syndicates and drug-related matters.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our member,” said Fihla.

The memorial for their fallen colleague was held on June 28 at their head office in Johannesburg CBD. The family of Zikalala was in attendance.

According to the Independent Investigative Police Directorate (Ipid) spokesperson Robbie Raburabu, Zikalala was shot by a member of the South African Police Service on the night of June 25.

Ipid is investigating a murder case.
