The Greenside High School netball team had a victorious outcome from their match against King David Victory Park. The match took place on April 19 at Greenside High School. Deputy Principal Sibusiso Masombuka said all Greenside High School age groups won their matches.
“It’s amazing to see them doing well and it affirms that the sports clinic was a great initiative to set our girls up well for the league fixtures,” said the principal.
He said the school’s first winter sports clinic was organized to teach the basics of the sport to learners with the main aim of introducing the learner to the sport. He added that the learners need to learn the fundamentals of the sport before going into serious sport competitions. He said emphasis was also placed on agility, movement, the proper way to run, jump, change direction and how to maintain balance.
“We hope to develop sports at Greenside High School as well as grow the interest of learners in sports. Disruption such as Covid-19 have had a profound impact on learners’ interest in sports along with the fact that some of our sports teams perform poorly in league fixtures and tournaments,” said school’s sports administrator Dipesh Maisuria.
He added that the sports clinic which would occur at the start of each term would have a positive impact on the performance of the school’s varied sporting teams.
Results of the match were as follows:
- U14 played two matches and won 7-2 and 28- 0 against King David Victory Park.
- U15 won 12- 1.
- U16 won 15- 3.
- U17 won 16- 6.
- Opens won 11 – 10.
