Having been born with a disability didn’t stop Katlego Legotlo from passing his matric with distinctions.

Legotlo (22) was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was seven months old after his parents realised that he was not progressing as a baby of his age should.

He spoke of the challenges he encountered due to having a speech impediment. He said sometimes he had to repeat himself for a person to understand. “Some people choose to underestimate my intelligence,” he said. “They assume that I don’t understand, sometimes they treat me like a baby. It even goes to the extent of some discussing me during my presence, thinking I cannot comprehend what they are saying. So, I constantly have to prove my capabilities.”

Katlego Legotlo is excited about his future.

Despite his challenges, Katlego was a dedicated learner at Hope School in Westcliff. He wrote matric in 2020, and notwithstanding his circumstances and it being amid the pandemic, which he admitted caused him a lot of anxiety, he still managed to attain three distinctions.”I was convinced to just try my best and complete it. I must say that I’m glad I did because I’m very pleased with the results I managed to obtain.”

His future goals are to be a successful entrepreneur and have a diverse business portfolio in logistics, telecommunications and real estate. His biggest goal possibly is to be a very influential person in society so he can be a voice for the people who are not heard.
“I just want to be able to be a blessing in someone else’s life. I believe that serving others is the highest form of living. That’s all I want to
do, live a life of being service to others.”
