Norwood police arrest two suspects for assault and pointing a firearm

Norwood SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Eric Masotsha said both suspects will appear in court in due course.

Norwood police detained two suspects for assault GBH (grievous bodily harm) and pointing of a firearm.

Spokesperson Warrant Officer Eric Masotsha said the complainant was apparently stopped by two friends who demanded payment of money owing to them. When he could not pay, it is alleged that ‘one of the suspects pointed a gun at him, and another went to their vehicle and returned holding a golf club, hitting the complainant all over his body’.
The incident happened at about 07:30 on February 17 on the corner of Louis Botha Avenue and 7th Street in Orange Grove.

Masotsha said the complainant managed to run away from them to the police station and open a case, providing a description of the vehicle and his assailants. Paramedics were called to examine him. He was taken to a nearby clinic for medical attention.

“Police officers drove out for a preliminary investigation of the crime scene and spotted the suspects’ vehicle. They approached, asking for permission to search them.”

A golf club was found in the boot of their vehicle but a gun was not recovered.
