Tailor gives back to the community

A local tailor based in Craighall gives back to the community by fixing the uniforms for the local primary school.

Giving back to the community is one thing that keeps Alpha K Frazer, the tailor in Craighall, going.

The 45-year-old tailor started fashion designing in 1998 and has been based at a Craighall shop since 2012.

According to Frazer, his love for being a tailor started when he was young; as he is short, his parents always took his clothes to a tailor to be altered.

“I am short and small, and finding properly fitting clothes for me has been difficult. Growing up, my parents took all my clothes to the tailor, and one day I took it upon myself to put buttons on and alter my clothes.”

He claims that he began to enjoy sewing and making his clothes after that.

Frazer explains that he gives back to his community by fixing Craighall Primary School uniforms for free.

“Meeting new people every day and learning a lot has taught me that there is nothing more rewarding than giving back and making a difference in the lives of the people in the community.”

He highlights that not only does he fix uniforms, but he is also willing to donate matric gowns and suits to those who need them.

“As people, we come from different backgrounds; some can afford matric dance dresses and suits, and some cannot.”
People hang their gowns and suits in the back of their closets never to be used again. Never considering that it can change someone’s life.

“There is no definition of a successful life that does not include giving back to your community when you can,” he concludes.
