A jack of all trades

1st team rugby player excels at acting and modelling as well.

It is not every day that one can excel in sport as well as acting and modelling, but Bryce Bennet does exactly that.

The Vandia Grove resident and King Edward VII School (KES) matric learner has been selected to attend a major convention for acting and modelling in New York in June.

He went to an audition and received a callback last year, all the while playing for the Reds (the school’s 1st rugby team).

The incredible opportunity at the International Modelling and Talent Association will be Bryce’s first convention overseas and he feels extremelly nervous.

Bryce Bennet (front) plays for the Reds, the KES 1st rugby team.

“I will be performing in front of hundreds of international directors and scouts for both drama and modelling,” he told Randburg Sun.

“My dream is to become an actor and I hope to receive callbacks to boost my opportunity for both stage and camera.”

Selection for the convention follows the audition 33andMe Talent Agency hosted at KES and a callback to the International Arts Talent Showcase in front of international judges.

Success there saw Bryce receive a $60,000 scholarship to American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Los Angeles to study a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

Despite his anxiety, Bryce knows the agency is preparing him well for the event through their boot camps.

Bryce Bennet’s speciality is comedy, and he hopes to share some of South Africa’s humour with the rest of the world.

“At these boot camps, we cover all the sections we are competing in to ensure that we are fully prepared for what the international stage requires. I am looking forward to competing on the international stage and showcasing my talents to various international scouts. My speciality is comedy, and I hope to showcase some of our South African humour. I am also looking forward to experiencing New York as I have never been abroad before.”

The trip is expensive so Bryce has done much fundraising, as well as running a back-a-buddy campaign for sponsorships and donations.

“I will not allow this challenge to cloud my dreams. I am extremely determined to receive callbacks in New York as this will enhance my local portfolio for potential movie roles, and hopefully, international opportunities in Hollywood. Keeping my focus will ensure that I will end up in front of the cameras of a blockbuster soon.
